01.11.2015 // VIDEO OF THE WEEK- BLUE VEINS AT AUSTIN CITY LIMITS

This week's video of the week goes out to the Little Room's very own macwacky! The Raconteurs gig at Austin City Limits in 2006 was notable for this performance of Blue Veins-- No copper mic and no harmonica mic because the Green Machine guitar hadn't yet gone through its Frankenstein transformation, but this performance is still a killer.

12.31.2014 // LAZARETTO ENDS THE YEAR WITH SALES OF OVER 150,000 ULTRA LPS

It was just over two weeks ago that the Lazaretto Ultra LP was reported to have sales of 75,700 copies. Since then, it's sold an additional 11,000 copies, giving it a total sales figure of 86,707 copies sold in the United States, according to SoundScan, and over 150,000 copies world-wide. And per the latest news from Third Man, it's a record that's broken a few more records:

- Highest one-year vinyl sales of the Sounscan era (and remember- It was just released in June!)

- Highest first-week vinyl sales, with 40,000 copies

- And don't forget, the World's Fastest Record!

Top that off with three, count 'em, THREE Grammy nominations and there's no denying that Lazaretto is a record for the record books.

12.20.2014 // TWO RARE SINGLES BY JACK'S PRE-WHITE STRIPES BAND DISCOVERED

Two copies of the Upholsters single, "Your Furniture Was Always Dead... I Was Just Afraid To Tell You" have surfaced inside of furniture reupholstered by Jack's band mate, Brian Muldoon. 98 copies are still being sat upon today. So everyone, it's time to rip up your old chairs and couches. What are you waiting for?

Taken from Third Man Records:

"Recently Third Man Records has been made aware of the discovery of two different copies found by two separate individuals of the 2nd single by the Upholsterers. This duo, comprising of actual upholsterers Jack White and Brian Muldoon, pressed 100 copies of this single and proceeded to hide them in furniture being reupholstered by Muldoon in 2004, in celebration of his 25th year in the business. In celebration of these discoveries, Third Man would like to share with everyone the cover art for this single, done by noted Detroit artist Gordon Newton."

12.19.2014 // BASSIST DOMINIC DAVIS TALKS ABOUT RECORDING THE SONG LAZARETTO

Dominic recently spoke with the Swedish blog songsforwhoever for their 100 Greatest Songs of 2014 article. Here's an excerpt:

Did any odd, or unusual, things happen during the recording sessions?

In a way, this entire record was odd. We would have a day or two off here and there, go in and put down as much as we could in the short time we had. Sometimes 4-5 songs a day. I said before that Jack works fast, but because we were touring it took him a year and a half to finish the record which is really unlike him. The sessions themselves were fast, but the entire process was the longest he?s ever worked on a record. It makes me wonder what the next one will be like.

Follow the link above to read the whole interview, and join us in the Little Room to talk about Lazaretto.

12.14.2014 // VIDEO OF THE WEEK- CHILD OF A FEW HOURS IS BURNING TO DEATH, BROOKLYN 2009

So Jack thinks of himself more as a drummer than a guitarist? He sure proves it in this week's Video of the Week, with a tremendous drum jam in the middle of Child of Few Hours at the Music Hall of Williamsburg back in 2009.

12.12.2014 // LAZARETTO IS THE TOP SELLING VINYL RECORD OF 2014- 75,700 COPIES!

All those bells and whistles and terrific music on the Ultra LP paid off. Since its release in June, Jack White's Lazaretto has sold 75,700 copies, making it the top selling vinyl record of 2014. The nearest to it was the Arctic Monkeys at almost half as many copies! That's an impressive amount that shows just how much Jack's fans embrace his philosophy of a tangible music experience.

But there's a dark side to all those record sales, as this article in the Wall Street Journal points out-- The Biggest Music Comeback of 2014: Vinyl Records. The more records sell, the harder it is for record pressing plants to keep up. What do you think of the success of Lazaretto? Do you have concerns about the future of the vinyl record industry? Join us in the Little Room to talk about it.

12.07.2014 // VIDEO OF THE WEEK- SCREWDRIVER/SKINNY JIM AT ICKY THUMP RECORDS

Don't even know what to say about this one... A sweat-soaked Screwdriver with Skinny Jim in the middle. Be-bop-a-lula, indeed.
