"Sheridan Square has basically shuttered its frontline V2 record business as part of restructuring to focus on its catalog releases and the future opportunities presented by digital distribution.
Today (Jan. 12), the company let go its V2 staff, including president Andy Gershon, and will reorganize the business in its Nashville office, where the company's COO Michael Olsen will oversee the catalog business. About 35 people are believed to have lost their jobs as part of the restructuring.
As part of that move, the company will retain the White Stripes catalog, but will no longer issue new music by the duo or other frontline artists such as Moby or the Raconteurs, sources say. The only genre the company plans to participate in the frontline going forward is gospel."
Just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and I also wanted to say thanks to those who visit this site as well as the messageboard often. It's hard to believe this website has been online for five years. Time sure does fly by. I have enjoyed every second of running this website and look forward to running it for years to come. Here's to hoping this year brings lots of White Stripes related news!
Ad-Jab, a always interesting ad related blog, picked Jack's Coca-Cola jingle as the best song from an ad in 2006:
"My pick for best song from an ad this year? Jack White's song for Coca-Cola . I choose this one because it was made specifically for the commercial. It's not some attempt to make a classic song hip again, and it comes right out and says what so many of these commercial tunes try to avoid: the point of using music in a commercial is to sell a product."
Check out the complete article, here. If you haven't seen the commercial, or heard the song, you can check it out here.
"Jack White has revealed his loyalties are now "divided totally 50/50" between The White Stripes and his new band The Raconteurs .
The guitarist has been touring with The Raconteurs , the band he formed with pal Brendan Benson , for most of the year. But in between promoting their debut album 'Broken Boy Soldiers' he has been working on a new White Stripes record with bandmate Meg White ."
There has been a little problem with the monthly archives, which is why the 2006 archives are non existent. I have not stopped doing them and will have them up soon enough.
"The White Stripes Jack White , Christina Aguilera and Buddy Guy all joined The Rolling Stones onstage at their New York City theatre show last night (October 29).
The special guests helped out the rock veterans at the first of their two nights at the Beacon Theater .
White joined Mick Jagger on vocals for a version of 'Loving Cup' from the Stones ' 1972 classic 'Exile On Main Street'."
"Jack White has denied claims that he has more fun with The Raconteurs than with The White Stripes.
White , who hasn't recorded with The White Stripes since 2005's 'Get Behind Me, Satan' and is currently playing a series of UK shows with The Raconteurs , hit back at the suggestion that he had moved on from his original band.
"People are assuming that The White Stripes is somehow painful for me, or too great a burden," he explained. "But I love the constrictions of The White Stripes. It really makes my brain do what my brain wants to do."
"Ten White Stripes tracks have been given new orchestral readings for an album dubbed "Aluminium," due Nov. 6 internationally via XL Recordings. A North American release date has yet to be announced.
White was not involved in the project, which was spearheaded by XL head Richard Russell. "I've grown up on popular music, but in the last couple of years I've begun to appreciate classical music, and for some reason I've often thought of the White Stripes when I've heard it: the hypnotic, repetitious, enigmatic nature of it," he says.
Working with composer Jody Talbot, Russell drafted a "specially assembled orchestra comprising many of the U.K.'s finest young classical musicians" to perform tracks like "The Hardest Button to Button," "I'm Bound To Pack It Up," "Let's Build a Home" and "Forever for Her (Is Over for Me)." Four Tet has remixed the latter cut but it has not yet been revealed how that version will be released.
"Aluminium" will only be available through the project's Web site in a limited run of 3,333 CDs and 999 vinyl albums, the latter edition of which will include a silkscreen print by artist Rob Jones. The album will also be sold in digital form."
