02.25.08 // LITTLE ROOM RECORD COMPANY

Some good, ambitious friends from the Little Room messageboard have started a record company named, the Little Room Record Company (excellent name, by the way). Here is some information on their very 1st release:

"Johnny Walker, formerly of The Soledad Brothers, has a new band called Cut
In The Hill Gang. Their first single “Johnny Walker's Quixotic Dream” will
be released February 12th and will feature a cover of The White Stripes'
“Sugar Never Tasted So Good” as the exclusive b-side. More tracks are
available for download from Cut In The Hill Gang's MySpace and a full-length LP will be released in 2008.

The single will be the first release from The Little Room Record Company,
will only be offered on 7” vinyl, is limited to 500 copies, and is
available exclusively at Cut In The Hill Gang shows and at
www.littleroomrecordco.com . The “Johnny Walker's Quixotic Dream”
7” will cost $5."

If any of you made it to the White Stripes last show here in Cincinnati, Johnny Walker came out and played guitar during "I Fought Piranhas". Also, I was able to make it to the Cut in the Hill Gang's show a few weeks ago in Covington, KY and came away a big fan. If you have a chance to see them live, I would highly recommend it.

01.02.08 // JACK AND PATTI PAGE INTERVIEW

USA Today spoke with both Jack White and Patti Page regarding the White Stripes decision to cover Page's hit, Conquest, from 1952:

"Patti Page can't imagine what possessed the White Stripes' Jack White to record a new version of Conquest , her flamenco-style hit from 1952.

"Nobody else picked that song, except me and Jack," says Page, who also had early '50s hits with Tennessee Waltz and You Belong to Me . "I wondered what we both saw in it."

12.18.07 // JACK AND MEG ON NPR, TALK CONQUEST

Jack and Meg were recently interviewed by NPR where he talks about the latest single, Conquest and the accompanying b-sides:

"The duo of guitarist Jack White and drummer Meg White draws from blues and punk in equal measure, but its latest release is inspired by a pop song from the '50s.

Patti Page is best-known for her hit "How Much Is That Doggy in the Window." Her more sultry "Conquest" is a song Jack White wanted to sing for years."

12.15.07 // VIRGIN MEDIA MUSIC AWARDS / CHRISTMAS TUNES

The White Stripes have been nominated for Best International Act at this year's first ever Virgin Media Music Awards. All winners are decided by public online vote. Cast your vote here. Find out all about the Virgin Media Music Awards here. Every vote is free and no registration is required. So, get to voting!

Also, Jack and Meg's Christmas tune, Candy Cane Children is number 10 on Spinner.com's 12 Best Christmas Songs. Click here for Spinner's 12 worst and 12 best Christmas songs.

I am going be updating the downloads page soon. I am feeling nostalgic, so it will surely be an older show. It may even be what I consider to be their best live performances ever. The live recordings that really turned me onto this band. Some of you older fans may have the recordings already but these are what I consider essential listening for all White Stripes fans new and old. Stay tuned.

The Los Angeles Times recently caught up with Jack to talk about various topics. Here, Jack talks about the tour cancellation:

"Half of me was glad because I have three other records I'm working on and I didn't have any time to work on them, and I was really getting worried that I might have to not do these things I wanted to do because of the touring."
