Last night, The Dead Weather played their first public live show at the Bowery Ballroom in NY. Check out this review from Spin.com:
"If your beef with today's crop of rock bands is that they're sexless, style-challenged dweebs who play their instruments like they're afraid to break a nail, then the Dead Weather certainly corrected that situation Tuesday night during their first-ever public show at a packed Bowery Ballroom on Manhattan's Lower East Side."
Read the complete review here. Check out the pictures of the show as well. After you have read the review, check out this thread in the Little Room set up to discuss the show. There's some great reviews from Little Roomers who attended.
04.11.09 // THE DEAD WEATHER SINGLE RELEASE / RECORD STORE DAY
This April 18th is the third annual Record Store Day, where indie stores around the country will offer some exclusive releases by certain artists, one of which being Jack's new gang, The Dead Weather. Be sure to stop by your favorite independent retailer and pick up the 7'' vinyl of the new single "Hang You From The Heavens."
Also, in a few days, on April 14th The Dead Weather will take the stage at New York's Bowery Ballroom to play their first public concert. If you are going consider yourself lucky and how about dropping by the Dead Weather forum in the Little Room and posting a review!
On a final note, you shutterbugs take note, per the official White Stripes newsletter:
"The Fan Gallery in the Cameras section of the site has been updated with more terrific photos taken with the JACK Holga and MEG Diana+ cameras. Special thanks to everyone who submitted photos - please keep them coming!"
I am aware the site needs some work, I need to update the releases section, fix some of the lyrics section and add some new articles to the library. All of this and more will be getting completed soon. The FAQ, is outdated and I am not sure if any one person will update it again. It's a beast to constantly keep updated and I am thinking about doing some sort of user based Wiki/FAQ that the fans can update themselves.
Finally, I am not the best in web design, so if anyone out there would like all the credit and glory helping create a new, better, whitestripes.net, please email me. Please put "site redesign" in the subject. Thank you.
03.11.09 // THE DEAD WEATHER THE DEAD WEATHER THE DEAD WEATHER
Jack White is in Nashville, TN, as we speak, with 150 very lucky fans announcing the formation of a brand spankin' new band, The Dead Weather along with Third Man Records having a physical location!
"Third Man Records, the imprint on which Jack White releases all of his music including The White Stripes and The Raconteurs, now has a physical location in downtown Nashville. White's new Third Man Records building serves as the company HQ and houses the label's offices plus a vinyl record store, photo studio, dark room and performance stage.
In celebration of the building's opening, the label's newest rock outfit, The Dead Weather , delivered their first public performance with a set including songs from their forthcoming album, Horehound. The band, fronted by Alison Mosshart (known to music fans as one half of The Kills) includes The Raconteurs' Jack Lawrence on bass, Dean Fertita from Queens Of The Stone Age on guitar and Jack White on drums and vocals. In addition to playing, White also served as producer on Horehound. Recording took place earlier this year in just three weeks at the newly constructed Third Man Studio, designed from the ground up by White. Third Man plans a June release for the album.
Around 150 fans, family and friends attended the Third Man Records grand opening event and exchanged their letter-pressed invitations for limited edition 7" vinyl pressings of The Dead Weather's debut single "Hang You From The Heavens" (b/w a stealth cover of Gary Numan's "Are Friends Electric?"). The Dead Weather hand painted each of the 150 7" records that also included a different photo booth strip of the band members. Downloads of these two songs are now available exclusively through iTunes. "
02.21.09 // WHITE STRIPES PERFORM ON LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN
Jack and Meg played the White Blood Cells track, "We're Going To Be Friends", for Conan last night on his last show. The best part about the song was seeing Meg, out from behind the drum kit, strumming a guitar and providing vocals. It was great to see them side by side, performing together again. Hopefully this performance is the start of things to come. The video of last night's performance is below:

"As many of you have likely heard, Jim Shaw was recently diagnosed with cancer. What at first seemed like a semi-manageable diagnosis has, unfortunately, become considerably more dire. He had part of his colon removed last month and, unbelievably, last week, he was told that the cancer has spread to his liver and lymph nodes. It's not good. That being said, both he and his wife Sandy Kramer Shaw are staying positive and they are going to FIGHT. We should too.

Various news outlets are reporting that Jack White is interested in recording with Thom Yorke of Radiohead once Jack's neck injury is healed up. Here is what they are saying:
"Jack White will hit the studio with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke as soon as he is fully recovered from his neck injury. The White Stripes singer is suffering from a slipped disc and has been ordered to rest for two months. But he reveals Yorke will be the first person he calls when he's ready to perform again - and he's already got a few songs ready. He says, "We've known each other for a while now. But the doctors said I couldn't perform for two months. I've been writing a lot instead."
